1 Thessalonians
Chapter 1
1:1Paul,and Silvanus, and Timothy, to the Church of the Thessalonians, which is in Theos the Father, and in the Kyrios Jesus Christos:Grace be with you,and peace from Theos our Father, and from the Kyrios Jesus Christos.
1:2We give Theos thanks always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers
1:3Without ceasing, remembering your effectual faith, and diligent love, and the patience of your hope in our Kyrios Jesus Christos, in the sight of Theos even our Father,
1:4Knowing, beloved brethren, that you are elect of Theos.
1:5For our Gospel was not to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, as you know after what manner we were among you for your sakes.
1:6And you became followers of us,and of the Kyrios, and received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,
1:7So that you were as examples to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.
1:8For from you sounded out the word of the Kyrios, not in Macedonia and in Achaia only:but your faith also which is toward Theos, spread abroad in all quarters, that we need not to speak anything.
1:9For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had to you,and how you turned to Theos from idols, to serve the living and true Theos,
1:10And to look for his son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from that wrath to come.
Chapter 2
2:1For you yourselves know, brethren, that our entrance in to you was not in vain,
2:2But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated at Philippi, (as you know) we were bold in our Theos, to speak to you the Gospel of Theos with much striving.
2:3For our exhortation was not by deceit, nor by uncleanness, nor by guile.
2:4But as we were approved by Theos, that the Gospel should be committed to us, so we speak, not as they that please men,but Theos, who proves our hearts.
2:5Neither yet did we ever use flattering words, as you know, nor colored covetousness, Theos is record.
2:6Neither sought we praise of men, neither of you, nor of others, when we might have been chargeable, as the Apostles of Christos.
2:7But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children.
2:8Thus being affectioned toward you, our good will was to have dealt to you, not the Gospel of Theos only, but also our own psyches, because you were dear to us.
2:9For you remember, brethren, our labor and hardship:for we labored day and night, because we would not be chargeable to any of you,and proclaimed to you the Gospel of Theos.
2:10You are witnesses, and Theos also, how holily, and justly, and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe.
2:11As you know how that we exhorted you, and comforted, and testified to every one of you (as a father his children)
2:12That you would walk worthy of Theos, who has called you to his kingdom and glory.
2:13For this cause also thank we Theos without ceasing, that when you received the word of Theos, who you heard of us, you received it not as the word of men,but as it is indeed the word of Theos, who also works in you that believe.
2:14For brethren, you are become followers of the Churches of Theos, who in Judea are in Christos Jesus, because you have also suffered the same things of your own country men, even as they have of the Jews,
2:15Who both killed the Kyrios Jesus and their own Prophets, and have persecuted us away, and Theos they please not,and are contrary to all men,
2:16And forbid us to preach to the Gentiles, that they might be saved, to fulfill their sins always:for the wrath of God is come on them, to the utmost.
2:17For asmuch, brethren, as we were kept from you for a season, concerning sight, but not in the heart, we enforced the more to see your face with great desire.
2:18Therefore we would have come to you (I Paul, at least once or twice) but Satanas hindered us.
2:19For what is our hope or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even you it in the presence of our Kyrios Jesus Christos at his coming?
2:20Yes, you are our glory and joy.
Chapter 3
3:1Therefore since we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to remain at Athens alone,
3:2And have sent Timothy our brother and minister of Theos, and our labor fellow in the Gospel of Christos, to establish you,and to comfort you touching your faith,
3:3That no man should be moved with these afflictions:for you yourselves know, that we are appointed thereto.
3:4For verily when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulations, even as it came to pass, and you know it.
3:5Even for this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent him that I might know of your faith, lest the tempter had tempted you in any sort, and that our labor had been in vain.
3:6But now lately when Timothy came from you to us,and brought us good tidings of your faith and love, and that you have good remembrance of us always, desiring to see us, as we also do you,
3:7Therefore, brethren, we had consolation in you, in all our affliction and necessity through your faith.
3:8For now are we alive, if you stand fast in the Kyrios.
3:9For what thanks can we recompense to Theos again for you, for all the joy with what we rejoice for your sakes before our Theos,
3:10Night and day, praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might accomplish that which is lacking in your faith?
3:11Now Theos himself, even our Father, and our Kyrios Jesus Christos, guide our journey to you,
3:12And the Kyrios increase you,and make you abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
3:13To make your hearts stable and unblameable in holiness before Theos even our Father, at the coming of our Kyrios Jesus Christos with all his Saints.
Chapter 4
4:1And furthermore we ask you, brethren, and exhort you in the Kyrios Jesus, that you increase more and more, as you have received of us, how you ought to walk, and to please Theos.
4:2For you know what commandments we gave you by the Kyrios Jesus.
4:3For this is the will of Theos even your sanctification, and that you should abstain from fornication,
4:4That every one of you should know, how to possess his vessel in holiness and honor,
4:5And not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles which know not Theos:
4:6That no man transgress and defraud his brother in any matter: for the Kyrios is avenger of all such things, as we also have told you before time, and testified.
4:7For Theos has not called us to uncleanness, but to holiness.
4:8He therefore that despises these things, despises not man,but Theos who has even given you his Holy Spirit.
4:9But as touching brotherly love, you need not that I write to you:for you are taught of God to love one another.
4:10Yes,and that thing verily you do to all the brethren, who are throughout all Macedonia:but we ask you, brethren, that you increase more and more,
4:11And that you study to be quiet, and to meddle with your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,
4:12That you may behave yourselves honestly toward them that are without, and that nothing be lacking to you.
4:13I would not, brethren, have you ignorant concerning them which are a sleep, that you sorrow not even as other which have no hope.
4:14For if we believe that Jesus is dead, and is risen, even so them which sleep in Jesus, will Theos bring with him.
4:15For this say we to you by the word of the Kyrios, that we which live, and are remaining in the coming of the Kyrios, shall not precede them which sleep.
4:16For the Kyrios himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, and with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trumpet of Theos:and the dead in Christos shall rise first:
4:17Then shall we which live and remain, be caught up with them also in the clouds, to meet the Kyrios in the air:and so shall we ever be with the Kyrios.
4:18Therefore, comfort yourselves one another with these words.
Chapter 5
5:1But of the times and seasons, brethren, you have no need that I write to you.
5:2For you yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Kyrios shall come, even as a thief in the night.
5:3For when they shall say, Peace, and safety, then shall come upon them sudden destruction, as birth pain upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape,
5:4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that day shall come on you, as it were a thief.
5:5You are all the children of light, and the children of the day:we are not of the night, neither of darkness.
5:6Therefore let us not sleep as do other, but let us watch and be sober.
5:7For they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they that be drunken, are drunken in the night.
5:8But let us who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breast plate of faith and love, and of the hope of salvation for a helmet.
5:9For Theos has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by the means of our Kyrios Jesus Christos,
5:10Which died for us,that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
5:11Therefore exhort one another, and edify one another, even as you do.
5:12Now we ask you, brethren, that you acknowledge them, which labor among you,and are over you in the Kyrios, and admonish you,
5:13That you esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
5:14We desire you, brethren, admonish them that are out of order:comfort you feeble minded:bear with the weak:be patient toward all men.
5:15See that none recompense evil for evil to any man:but ever follow that which is good, both toward yourselves, and toward all men.
5:16Rejoice evermore.
5:17Pray continually.
5:18In all things give thanks:for this is the will of Theos in Christos Jesus toward you.
5:19Quench not the Spirit.
5:20Despise not prophesying.
5:21Try all things, and keep that which is good.
5:22Abstain from all appearance of evil.
5:23Now the very Theos of peace sanctify you throughout:and I pray God that your whole spirit and psyche and body, may be kept blameless to the coming of our Kyrios Jesus Christos.
5:24Faithful is he who calls you, which will also do it.
5:25Brethren, pray for us.
5:26Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
5:27I charge you in the Kyrios, that this Epistle be read to all the brethren the Saints.
5:28The grace of our Kyrios Jesus Christos be with you, Amen. The first Epistle to the Thessalonians written from Athens.
